After more than 10 years of teaching K-12 students in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, and seven years also with the City of San Ramon's summer camp and after school enrichment programs, I decided to move my focus to college admissions advising when I saw the great need that students and parents have for guidance in today's college process, which seems to get more and more complicated and stressful each year.
I hold a certificate with UC Berkeley's College Admissions and Career Planning post-graduate program, have a BA from Pomona College, and a Masters with Arizona State University's Thunderbird School of Global Studies. After 12 years of corporate experience in financial marketing, I realized that my calling was in education, where I can make a greater contribution by teaching and guiding our future leaders. I have taught and tutored both applied and fine arts, reading and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) - related subjects.
Because there is no governmental oversight for college admissions counseling, parents and students should make sure that college advisors they hire are members of professional organizations which have strict sets of standards for conduct and statements of principles of good practice that their members must follow. I am a member of HECA (Higher Education Consultant Association), WACAC (Western Association of College Admissions Counseling), and NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counseling).
